If I take a year-out after
university, can I still be considered for Gurit’s
UK Graduate Scheme?
We are more than happy for you to apply
when you are ready, whether this is whilst you
are in your final year of study or when you
are returning from your travels with empty pockets!
How long does Gurit’s
Graduate Scheme last?
This depends as
each training scheme is tailored to the individual.
Typically, we offer successful candidates a
1-year contract, and then it is down to you
to move things forward from here.
What happens at the end
of the scheme? Will I be offered a permanent
job?
Again, this largely depends on you
and the route that you choose to take your career
on. So far, we have a 100% success rate in retaining
our Graduate’s so we are pretty confident
that newcomers will like the company just as
much as our current Graduate’s do, and
choose to develop their career with us.
I am not an EU National
– Can I still apply?
Due to current work permit guidelines,
we cannot accept applications from graduates
who require a permit to live and work in the
UK. However, should you currently be eligible
for the UK Science & Engineering Graduates
Scheme that allows non–EEA nationals to
remain in the UK for 12 months, then we are
able to consider your application for a fixed-term
period only (running in conjunction with the
parameters as described by Work Permits UK.)
How much do Gurit Graduates
earn?
Salaries at Gurit are competitive within
the current Graduate marketplace but will vary
depending upon the level of qualifications,
relevance of degree discipline to the role,
and also whether or not you have any previous
experience.
Do you have Graduate Opportunities
available outside of Composite Engineering?
Unfortunately not. Due to the nature
of our business and the niche markets that we
operate in, it is vital that we move the business
forward with talented engineers that are as
passionate about composites as we are.
What are the hours of
work?
Our working week is made up of 37.5
hours. The standard office hours at Gurit are
08:30am – 17:00pm.
If I am successful in
my application, where will I be based?
All of Gurit’s UK Graduate Opportunities
currently exist at our site based on the Isle
of Wight.
Is relocation assistance
provided?
Yes we will contribute toward the expense
of relocating to the Isle of Wight for successful
candidates. However, should you wish to remain
on the “mainland” then we are happy
to support your decision, and will instead pay
for the cost of your ferry travel; either from
Southampton or Portsmouth.
How long does it take
to commute to Gurit?
This obviously depends upon where you
choose to live! But from the ferry-port in Southampton,
the hi-speed service takes approximately 23
minutes. Once on the island the free Gurit bus
service collects you and delivers you to the
site 15 minutes later. Plenty of time to relax
and have a coffee on your way to and from work!
Do opportunities exist
to work abroad?
Whilst our site in the UK is currently
the largest in the group, many of our customers
are located all over the world. Therefore some
people within the company do get the opportunity
to work abroad, although this will not necessarily
apply to everyone.
How do I apply?
Please apply in writing, enclosing
a full CV and cover letter. Applications can
either be posted for the attention of Tracy
Foster (Recruitment Co-ordinator) Gurit UK,
St. Cross Business Park, Newport, Isle of Wight,
PO30 5WU or emailed to careers-UK@gurit.com
What is the closing date
for applications?
We do not have a specific deadline
for receiving Graduate applications, as we will
fill our positions as soon as we have found
the right people. However, we would aim to close
no later than the end of April.
How many Graduates do
you recruit each year?
We are hoping to place at least 4 Graduates
in either Technical or Operational areas of
the business this year. However, the good thing
about Gurit is that as a company we are flexible
enough to allow for a “non-quota”
scheme. Therefore, we will recruit individuals
who demonstrate the potential to have significant
strategic value to the organisation.
